Three Hours of Free Power

25 March 2026

Victorians will soon be able to access three hours of free power in the middle of the day.

This could save families up to $300 per year off their energy bills.

If the household has solar and batteries, they could save up to $1,070 per year.

Premier and Minister D’Ambrosio announced the Victorian Midday Saver Offer will be available from 1 October 2026.

Households that shift their electricity use to the middle of the day - running appliances such as washing machines, dryers, and air conditioning/electric heating, or charging their electric vehicle - will benefit the most.

More than 850,000 Victorian are already generating solar power on their roof during the day - these households are already benefiting from cheap or free daytime electricity by using the energy from the sun.

Labor’s Midday Saver is sharing the benefits of renewable energy to give even more Victorians cheaper power.

Victorians who regularly work from home, have batteries or smart devices that can switch household appliances to run during the middle of the day will benefit the most.

Victoria is a national leader in renewable energy, with around 100 renewable energy projects in operation.

Our 54 solar farms, together with rooftop solar, supplied 16 per cent of Victoria’s electricity last year, with wind farms generating 24 percent.

This generation of cheap, solar energy drives down wholesale prices and has helped Victoria consistently achieve the lowest average household power prices in the country.

Only Labor will continue to build the renewable energy infrastructure Victorian needs to keep the lights on and push power bills down as our ageing coal fired power plants retire.

While Liberal leader Jess Wilson is busy associating with climate change denying renewable energy blockers like One Nation’s Barnaby Joyce, instead of putting Victorians cost of living first.

About 2.8 million Victorian households will be eligible for the Midday Saver offer – that’s more than all eligible households in states covered by the Commonwealth’s Solar Sharer Offer combined.

Customers will have to opt into the program with their energy provider.

More details, including the time periods and prices for the offer across the state, will be released in May.
