Ireland Brown Constructions has been endorsed as the preferred head contractor to build stage two of the
North Bellarine Aquatic Centre following a competitive open tender process.

The indoor facility in Drysdale builds on the well-received heated 50-metre outdoor pool and is set to feature:
• 25 m indoor pool with eight lanes and access ramp;
• Warm water pool with access ramp;
• Accessible change rooms;
• First aid room;
• Gymnasium and group fitness rooms;
• Foyer, reception, administration and office;
• Café with seating;
• Landscaping and pathways;
• Extended car park including two additional accessible car parks; and
• Refurbishment of the entry pavilion.

Construction will begin in November and is estimated to wrap up in 2027.

The Australian and Victorian governments have each committed $20 million to the project, with the City
contributing up to $300,000.

Federal Member for Corangamite Libby Coker MP said the award of the tender was an exciting milestone for
families and community members across the North Bellarine.

“This project reflects the North Bellarine community’s long-held desire for an indoor local aquatic centre that
offers swimming lessons and a safe welcoming place for people of all ages and abilities to swim, exercise and
stay active.

“Stage 2 of the aquatic centre will build on the success of the outdoor pool, and I’m so proud that, together
with the Victorian Government and the City of Greater Geelong, we’re delivering a much-needed project that
will bring the community together and help families live healthier, more connected lives.”

Member for Bellarine Alison Marchant said she was proud to be delivering an accessible facility that would
provide Bellarine locals with year-round opportunities to stay active, build community connections, and
strengthen water safety skills.

“This milestone marks an exciting step forward for a project eagerly anticipated by the Bellarine community -
one that will also strengthen the local economy and create new jobs,” Ms Marchant said.

“I can’t wait to see the community come together and make the most of these incredible new spaces.”

Greater Geelong Mayor Stretch Kontelj OAM said Council’s decision to award the construction tender was an
exciting milestone in the project’s journey.

“The new indoor facility will be a welcome addition to the North Bellarine Aquatic Centre’s outdoor pool,”
Mayor Kontelj said.

“We are pleased to be in partnership with the Commonwealth and Victorian governments and investing in the
long-term future and health of the local North Bellarine community.

“We look forward to seeing the indoor facility come to life.”

Councillor Elise Wilkinson congratulated the preferred tenderer.

“The panel recommended Ireland Brown Constructions based on its excellent project experience, expertise,
value for money and project risks,” Cr Wilkinson said.

“The construction of the North Bellarine Aquatic Centre – Stage 2 project will generate positive employment
outcomes for Greater Geelong while delivering the infrastructure and services that address the growing needs
of the Bellarine."
