New Roundabout to Boost Safety for Bellarine Drivers

10 April 2026

Labor is improving safety and reducing congestion for drivers in the growing Bellarine region.

Major works are now complete at the intersection of Barwon Heads Road, Blackrock Road and Staceys Road in Connewarre.

The upgrade includes a new roundabout and safety barriers to improve traffic flow and make the intersection safer.

Barwon Heads Road is a key route connecting Geelong to the Bellarine Peninsula.

Traffic volumes are growing as nearby suburbs like Armstrong Creek and Marshall continue to expand.

More than 10,000 vehicles use the road each day during peak summer periods, including around 1,000 heavy vehicles.

The new roundabout will improve sight lines and make it easier for drivers to safely enter and exit the intersection.

It will help reduce the risk of crashes and keep traffic moving.

The upgrade also includes new turning lanes into Barwon Heads Airport, relocated bus stops and a reduced speed limit of 80 km/h.

Line marking, signage and street lighting have also been upgraded to improve visibility.

The project has been designed with cyclists and pedestrians in mind.

New on-road bike lanes have been installed along Barwon Heads Road.

New pedestrian paths, refuges and parking near bus stops will make it easier for families and school drop-offs.

Crews will return in the coming weeks to complete minor works, including landscaping.
