The Carroll Labor Government is delivering Geelong’s biggest ever health infrastructure investment.
Local Labor members today visited the site of the new and redeveloped Barwon Women’s and Children’s to inspect progress on the massive $500 million project.
The structure and façade of the new specialist clinic building and eight-storey tower are now complete.
The Myers Street maternity entrance has reopened, providing expectant mums with direct drop-off.
Crews are now turning their attention to the internal fit-out, including services, wall framing, ceilings and finishes.
On track for completion in 2028, the new hospital will deliver expanded maternity, paediatric, neonatal and women’s health care in modern, purpose-built facilities.
It will support children, adolescents, newborns and mothers and provide more:
- maternity inpatient beds
- paediatric multi-day and same-day inpatient beds
- special care nursery cots
- birthing suites
- operating theatres
- expanded paediatric and maternity specialist clinic facilities.
The project is supporting around 1,500 jobs throughout major construction and is being delivered by the Victorian Health Building Authority in partnership with Barwon Health and Built.
The Albanese Labor Government has contributed $50 million through the Community Health and Hospitals Program agreement.
Labor has built 12 new hospitals, hired 17,000 more nurses and midwives and is delivering the health services families in the Barwon region need.
A Liberal One Nation Coalition will hurt working families in the Barwon region with its $40 billion cuts plan.
They will devastate healthcare and abandon the projects growing communities rely on.
